The Academy has
applied to be registered in 2013 as an authorised International
Baccalaureate (IB) school. At present it is a candidate school
for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). |

In 2013 the Grade
12 students will write the National Senior Certificate (NSC)
under the auspices of the South Africa Independent Examination
Board (IEB). |

To date the
Academy has achieved a 100% pass rate in the NSC examinations
and all the
girls leaving the Academy have been accepted into universities
and colleges in South Africa and the United States. |

In 2012 the
Academy was admitted as a full member of the International Round
Square organisation. |
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a
proven record of outstanding
leadership ability, extensive
experience and interest in the
education of adolescent girls,
and demonstrable success in school
administration and development,
particularly of a girls' boarding
school, together with qualities of
integrity, commitment, compassion,
personal humility, a sense of humour
and fun.
Expectations
Reporting to the Board of Directors
of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership
Academy Foundation, the Head of
Academy’s primary responsibility
will be to ensure the highest
standard of education for the
Academy’s students, in accordance
with its educational mission and
strategic goals.
In support of this goal, the Head of
Academy will possess most, if not
all of the following:

The ability to
embrace and further refine the Academy’s founding vision and to
inspire and lead others towards fulfilling that vision.

| 2. |
A
commitment to understanding the history, traditions, and
cultures of South Africa and their impact on the Academy’s
mission.
|
| 3. |
An ability to
facilitate communication and interaction in an international
setting.
|
| 4. |
A warm,
approachable presence that invites and respects the views of
others, yet is decisive when needed.
|
| 5. |
The ability to
work closely with teachers and other staff members to support
and facilitate collaboration within the curriculum and between
it and the co-curriculum programme.
|
| 6. |
A commitment to
the meaning and value of instructional leadership.
|
| 7. |
Skill in
communicating effectively with all members of staff, parents,
students as well as the Board of Directors of the Oprah Winfrey
Leadership Academy Foundation so that all these groups are
appropriately informed of potential issues and/or needs.

| 8. |
Experience of a
girls' boarding school in all its multifaceted aspects.
|
| 9. |
A commitment to
cultural diversity, skill in building inclusive communities, and
the ability to navigate diverse cultural and social situations.

| 10. |
The ability to
network with the greater South African community to create
learning and service opportunities for students and teachers. |

Interviews will take place in March
2013, with final interviews taking
place in South Africa in May 2013.
